Believe it or not, prayer works. Today we are going to be discussing how we can rest in God -- knowing that He hears our prayers and acknowledges them. I’m excited about this topic since I have seen God answer so many prayers in my own life and the lives of people around me. Let's get started.

Today we are tackling Chapters 4-6 from the book Not A Fan by Kyle Idleman. We need to identify what is most important to us. Is it Jesus, sports, school, job, family, friends or one of a million other things? What does it mean for Jesus to be our priority? How does that affect us as Christians? Let’s dive in and make sense of this! Any direct quotes from the book are in quotations.
Today we start Chapter Two and Three of Not A Fan by Kyle Idleman! These two chapters are about finding out how committed you are. Are you willing to embarrass yourself, serve the lowest, or get out of your comfort zone? What’s the difference between knowledge and intimacy? Is following Jesus a simple decision, or a commitment? -- For the rest of this series, I will be using less direct quotes from the book, for copyright reasons and ease of writing. Anything in large quotations comes from the book.-- Let’s get into it!
John 3 tells us about Nicodemus. Nicodemus was a member of the Sanhedrin (group of religious leaders) and he knew a lot about God. He had learned and taught about God for years and was ready to take his relationship with Jesus to the next level. But he was Hey all!
Today I’m thrilled to be writing about finding JOY in the midst of pain. If I get some positive feedback/requests, I might do one on Paul or Hezekiah! For today, we are going to cover Job and I can’t wait to see what I(and hopefully you) will learn from this! Let’s dive in! What is joy? The dictionary defines a fan as "an enthusiastic admirer." Fans want to be close enough to Jesus to get all the benefits, but not so close that it requires sacrifice. Fans may be fine with repeating a prayer, attending church on the weekend, and slapping a Jesus fish on their bumpers. But is that really the extent of the relationship Jesus wants? Jesus was never interested in having admirers. It's not the fans he is looking for. Not a fan challenges you to consider what it really means to call yourself a Christian. With a frankness that you're not likely to hear in a Sunday school class, Kyle invites you to take an honest look at your relationship with Jesus. His call to follow may seem radical to us, but Jesus desires it for every believer. ~Not a Fan synopsis Not A Fan by Kyle Idleman (and yes I realize his last name is ironic)tackles this subject of Words are powerful, I think most of us know that, but let's tackle this topic from a Biblical view and see how it applies to us.
When I think of words in the Bible my mind immediately jumps to the third chapter of James. Specifically verses 3-12 which say: “If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. Look at the ships also: though they “‘But no one need go [to hell],’ said Ransom. I stopped in my tracks when I read that. Not because Weston’s argument had become more convincing due to his appeal to Scripture, but because the first Scripture that came to mind says almost the exact opposite! It took somewhat longer to recall where he was drawing that idea from. It was Jesus’ answer to the Sadducees when they asked the bizarre question about the seven brothers marrying the same woman one at a time and then dying: “But Jesus answered them, ‘You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the |
